Eco-motives EvolutionSince the launch of Eco-motives people have often asked me how the company came about and what inspired me to set up an eco interiors business. Well, it's been an interesting journey, and like any new venture there were certainly challenges and learnings along the way. My background is in HR consulting but after several years of late nights in the office and too many hours in airport lounges, I decided it was time to take a career break and head for pastures greener (so to speak).
I have always had a keen interest in nature and design. I'm sure this comes from my childhood growing up in New Zealand where there is a real sense of pride in enjoying and protecting the environment, and product innovation is strongly influenced by the surrounding natural resources. So I began looking into creative but purposeful opportunities where I could combine my interests in eco friendly principles and natural design.
In 2007 I joined the KLC School of Design in London and started a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration and I began researching eco homeware products and actively hunting out UK designers and manufacturers adopting eco principles in their work. I was surprised to find so many people who shared a huge passion and enthusiam for all things eco and a fast growing and an awe inspiring range of high quality eco products. I had always believed if people could buy beautiful and useful eco homeware as a comparable option to non-eco alternatives it would be a convincing and positive choice. This was looking like a reality and that was something to get excited about! Hence, along came Eco-motives and an evolving collection of contemporary eco homeware and gifts.
I hope you enjoy the site and our products. It is absolutely do good, feel good, retail therapy! Kind regards,
Melanie
