Our Ethos

At Eco-motives we recognise that the way we live our lives affects the environment.  Our aim is to supply stylish contemporary homeware and gifts that have been produced with a low environmental impact.

In pure definition 'eco-friendly' means 'something that is not harmful to the environment' and there are a number of eco principles we use to assess the environmental impact of our products.  For instance, 

• It has been made from natural and sustainable materials
• It has been manufactured in an energy efficient way, or uses little energy in its function
• It has been made from recycled or recyclable materials
• It is safe and healthy to have in the home
• It has been made locally and supplied to a local market ensuring least possible transport miles are used to get the product to its customers. 

This is by no means an exhaustive list and it's a tough feat to meet them all.  Often as consumers we need to make a compromise in deciding which eco benefits are most important to us.

At Eco-motives, we start by looking for unique designs and high quality products made from natural and sustainably managed resources.  We also consider the energy efficiency of each product and its manufacture, as well as the transport method and miles required to get the product to our customers.  Given the developing eco market it's not possible for all of our products to be 100% eco-friendly, but we believe they offer benefits advantageous over current non-eco alternatives and we are dedicated to continually improving the eco qualities of our range.  Our designers and suppliers share our passion in protecting the environment and are continually developing their products and manufacturing methods to meet superior eco standards. 

While we predominantly supply products made in the UK by our fabulous British designers and manufacturers, some of our products are sourced overseas.  In these instances we use our best endeavours to ensure the products have been shipped or road freighted to us.
